Thursday has now been and gone, and it really was a terrific day. It was also Special Friend day, where everyone picked out a name from a hat and had to be extra kind and generous to that person as much as they could throughout the day, hopefully making them feel very special!
We started our morning off by hearing from Sheila from Missio and all the work they do all over the world to help those less fortunate than us and how they are able to give lots of people hope. It also helped us understand how we can put Christ’s words into action and become the Body of Christ in our day-to-day lives. This session led into our celebration of Mass with Fr Tom and every child played a part in bringing it to life once again.
After a really tasty lunch of chicken nuggets, we took part in a competitive and busy treasure hunt around the village which had been organised by Angela. It asked lots of questions and everyone had to be very observant, the winning team scored a huge 60 points! We then came back to the convent and it was time for some water bombs, again organised by Angela (it’s a good job she can do lots of things at once!). It was great to have the sun shining, see everyone smiling and see Steve, Henry, Chris and Tom O get splatted with lots of water!
Once everyone had dried and changed, we had an opportunity to finish our Romero Crosses with Fr Tom. There were some really lovely designs which captured the spirit of Oscar Romero and the hope that he brought to the people of El Salvador. A lot of time and effort went into every cross and we hope that they look as good in homes and bedrooms as they do here in Nympsfield.
We then had our dinner (a really tasty pasta bake) and it was time for Angela to lead us in some team challenges in the village hall (she really did have a busy day!). There were some great designs for the giant egg cup holder and the 3D model of something they had done during the week. Some harsh judging from Steve saw Team Chris come out on top, they enjoyed their prizes on Double Prize Thursday!
We came back to the convent and Emily led us in a really reflective and relaxing Night Prayer on how we can keep hope alive in our homes and schools before it was time to reveal who we had picked out of the hat as our special friend earlier in the day! Everyone said something nice about their special friend and gave them a chocolate bar as a present, it was lovely to hear all of the nice things that they said about each other. That meant that it was time for bed after a really busy day.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at Mass on Friday which starts at 11.45am.
